We asked one of our Fund 2 LPs why she chose to invest with Accelerating Asia Ventures. Here is what she told us, in her own words.
Why did you want exposure to this region?
"A balanced portfolio needs a slice of higher growth, and the innovation here is almost decoupled from what is happening in other geographies. Doing it on my own would have been impossible, on both access and assessment."
Why Accelerating Asia specifically?
"I wanted the returns and the values together: a genuinely diverse group of companies, women-led founders, a social responsibility angle. This was the perfect mix."
You talk about camels, not unicorns.
"I like the phrase that you are looking for a camel and not a unicorn. It reflects how I think about companies and growth."
How do you think about the risk?
"I am a big believer in portfolio effects. Going out to find this myself would be impossible, so this just solves that problem for me."
What surprised you?
"That it is not just an investment, it is an experience. I get to meet the founders and help shape the cohorts. It makes me feel real ownership, not like a passive cheque."
What would you tell another investor weighing it up?
"Meet the people, hear the stories. And do not wait until you are kicking yourself in ten years. It gives you access to a part of the market you cannot reach alone."
